Brief of incident / Award Citation:
Some terrorists were reported to be wandering in the deras and fields situated in the areas of Police Stations Jhansa and Ismailabad. Sh. Muhammad Akil, IPS, Asstt. Superintendent of Police, Kurukshetra alongwith the force was detailed to survey the area and carry out combing operation to nab these terrorists. On 15.3.1993, he received information that three dreaded terrorists namely Hardip Singh @ Kala-Haryanvi and Sajjan Singh, both residents of village Julmat, PS Pehowa with one other terrorist were staying at dera of one Mohinder Singh s/o Sodagar Singh r/o village Pipli Majra. These terrorists were ran away in the fields. With the help of dog squad, Sh. Mohd. Akil and Sh. Subhash Yadav started the search of the terrorists in the fields. Thereafter, the terrorist moved towards village Dharagarh. On seeing the gypsy of the Sh. Mohd. Akhil, ASP, Sh. Subhash Yadav, DSP and the police party there, they started firing on the police party, upon which gypsy driver showing alertness very promptly took the gypsy at a defence site. The ASP without caring for his life by crawling boarded the bullet proof gypsy of DSP/Pehowa. Sh. Mohd. Akil, ASP and Sh. Subhash Yadav, DSP alongwith force started firing on the terrorists and went forward. The terrorist came out from a tubewell kotha and started firing on the police party headed by the ASP. The ASP asked member of his party to open fire and he himself also showing courage of highest order and without caring for his precious life fired on the terrorist, resulting in his killing at the spot. All these three terrorists were responsible for a large number of murders committed in Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. In the year 1992 they killed about 20 innocent persons in village Sadarpur and Dachar, distt. Karnal.
