Brief of incident / Award Citation:

On 27.0L.L992, after receipt of specific information about presence of hardcore terrorist and self styled Chief of KCF Sukhwinder Singh and associates in village Karnama, Shri Rupinder Singh, DSP alongwith force reached the said village and started search of the houses. During this, terrorist hiding in the nearby houses started heavy firing on police party. Shri Rupinder Singh, DSP sustained serious bullet injuries. Though, grievously injured, he did not lose head and fired back on the terrorist with AK-47 rifle and successfully injured one of the three terrorists. The terrorists ran towards the nearby fields by firing indiscriminately and using rocket on the police parties. The fleeing terrorists were gallantly chased by ASI Kashmir Singh and ASI Ajit, irrespective of the fact that both of them were injured. The accurate firing by ASI Kashmir Singh resulted in killing of one terrorist who was identified as Sukhwinder Singh @ Gora-a listed hardcore terrorist wanted in many cases. From the killed terrorist, one GPMG Gun with ammunition, one local launcher, one rocket and rocket launcher, three rocket chargers, etc. were recovered. In this encounter Shri Rupinder Singh, DSP displayed conspicuous gallantr:y courage and devotion to duty of a high order.
